Species text
DistributionThe species is restricted to North Wales, the northern Pennines, Lake District and Scotland. It is a boreal species, also recorded from Ireland.
Habitat and ecology
H. pervicax occurs in wet places, among Sphagnum, Juncus, moss, usually on fairly high ground, but down to 120 m in the far north. Adults of both sexes have been found mainly in spring and summer, but also in the autumn.
Status
The spider is common at some sites, but very local and widely scattered.
Threats
There is probably little threat from forestry, as most of its sites are too wet.
Management and conservation
Ensure wetlands are not drained for intensive forestry.
